I previously posted to see if anyone was interested in my Fiesta zetec 1.25i 2002 , only 39,000 miles (yes, really) on the clock as maybe a project/ doer upper but had no response so my question now is what is the best way to dispose/scrap it and can anyone recommend a good company to help with this. Thanks for any help guys 😀

Hi,

Does the engine run with a jump start or has the ECU fault made it a non-runner?

Has the cambelt been replaced recently?

Is there any MOT left on the car? Did it need much work to pass last year?

From the info so far I would say an eBay auction would be the best option.

You could also ask your local scrap yard for a quote first to get a minimum figure.

Thanks Tom. Problem started with battery going flat, putting jump leads on wrong and blowing the reverse protector diode. New battery and new fuse didn’t solve. Starter motor working fine off the car but not on it, hence the theory that ECU not working. MoT a couple of months ago, passed with no problems. I’m loath to hire an auto electrician in case it’s not that and I need to spend more to find out the problem. I don’t use it very often as I am mainly housebound, hence the very low mileage. Always been a good little runner, shame this has happened.

Oh, that really is a shame. Sadly, as a non-runner without a firm fault diagnosis the car is really only worth scrap value. I would expect around £250 for scrap. If you live some distance from the scrap yard they may also deduct some money for the time and fuel to collect the car.

Listing the car as spares and repairs on eBay, highlighting the low mileage and clean MOT with many months remaining, could get £500+. But that depends on whether you feel comfortable with strangers knowing your address and coming to view.

It is a shame especially as I’ve just paid nearly £500 for a new set of tyres…..

Thanks for your advice Tom.

Wheresbouts in Surrey? I might be able to recommend someone?

Who has come up with this theory? Do you not have any relatives who can help?

A mobile mechanic that isn’t an auto electrician.

Do you know which fuse was replaced?
It would be worth checking the following fuse;

For 2000-2002 model year F33 (3A) in the Battery junction box
For 2002-2008 model year F16 (3A) behind the glove box

Thank you Dan62 but all fuses were checked and double checked 😀

ahh right - sorry I know nobody in London. But it sounds like a simple electrical issue. Isn't the cost of doing nothing and throwing the car away much greater than an auto-electrician?

What will you do to replace it?

...and do you not have any relatives who can help?

Probably…now having a rethink..
