Synchro issue at end of PCP deal

Featured Replies

Discovered an issue with my 71 plate Focus st line x 1.0 155 mhev on Saturday, almost certainly a synchro issue (known issue as part of a Ford TSB). PCP deal ends at the end of Feb, final payment due on March 1st

Have spoken with Ford Customer Service, notified Ford Credit and have it booked in at a Ford garage next Wednesday (25th) but only fot an initial diagnostic; no work likely until the 2nd week of March (after said PCP deal ends...!)

Garage have told me its likely to cost circa £2-3k to resolve and have suggested Ford may potentially contribute as little as 20-30%

I don't fully understand how this situation affects my PCP options, especially given its a known issue

Any advice on what to do?

Hi,

Your PCP contract will still end on the same date. But you will most likely be charged extra for returning it with the defect. It doesn't matter that it's a known issue, because it wouldn't have been a free repair anyway, only a gesture of goodwill towards it, as has been suggested already.

It's too late now, but you would have been better off returning it without saying anything. They wouldn't have been able to prove the fault was there at the point of handover, but you have given them the proof now.

The best option would now be to seek legal advice immediately to see whether you can legally avoid paying for the repair somehow. I am not a law expert so won't say any more on that.

Problem is, I'd basically banked on paying the balloon payment or my secondary option would have been to exchange but I imagine then it would have been scrutinised

I would've said nothing and either traded the car in for a new one or handed it back to cover the MGFV

See what WBAC.com is offering for it and let them have it.

They will pay your MGFV off for you (take Ford Credit Paperwork with you)

Then go and buy a decent car

If you're going to pay the balloon payment and keep the car then I don't see the problem. You'll just have to pay for the repair after the PCP ends.

They don't usually test drive cars at hand back, just look around them on the forecourt.
