2023 Fiesta Fault code P0013

Featured Replies

So my 2023 Fiesta ecoboost has developed a P0013 fault which shows on the OBD as ‘Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High’. The fact that it comes on first thing in the morning when the engine’s cold made me think that’s wrong. Having done a bit of digging I’m told it’s likely to be the ‘Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit Solenoid’. Having called in my local independent garage I got the dreaded intake of breath that I last got when my wet belt went on my last fiesta. 😢. The advice was the same as last time and I was told I’d best take it to a Ford dealer.

The car seems to run fine except for the warning bells and screen lighting up. ’m sure others will have had the same. Any advice? My car is under 3yrs old but has 68000 on the clock (8000 over the warranty limit). TIA

Check battery voltage first

Cold start could be battering your already dying battery and giving you false codes.

Change the battery, reset BMS (FORScan) clear all DTCs (FORScan) and see what comes back

I’ve just had the battery changed (at a Ford main dealer) last week. The problems just got worse over the the last 7 days and I’m erasing the code 2/3times a day now using my obd. Should they have done something when they replaced the battery?

It's a proper fault then

Don't keep clearing it, investigate it

A P0013 code on a Ford indicates an issue with the "B" (exhaust) camshaft position actuator circuit on Bank 1. It typically signals an electrical fault, such as a faulty Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid, broken wiring, or low oil pressure affecting the actuator's function.

Unplug the VCT solenoids on the side of the silver timing chain housing. Common fault on these is oil leaking through the solenoid and into the wiring loom.

I’ve got it booked in on Tuesday. Hoping it won’t be a massive issue. The independent garage has scared me tho after the hassle and expense of the wet belt issue. I’m a driving instructor so I need the car every day.

Does your 2023 even have a wet belt?

No. It has a chain. That’s why I stuck with the fiesta. Didn’t think I’d have the same issues.

The VCT solenoids leak on both engines.

I know you said it's out of warranty due to mileage but there may still be some goodwill available so worth asking if it is a large job/quote.
