Exhaust filter warning message

Featured Replies

Hi. I bought a Ford Transit Connect just over a week ago. Today it has come up with a message saying the the exhaust filter is over the limit & to service the vehicle now.

According to the manual it should self regenerate or I can start a manual regeneration, but I can't find where to do this on the control panel.

So 2 questions really.

1) How do I get fix the issue? I have done what it says in the manual, ie. Drive over 30mph for at least 20 minutes but that made no difference.

2) Would the filter have got to this point after only a week of ownership, or would the garage have know before they sold it to me?

or & 3! Would it be covered by the AA warranty that came with the purchase?

Many thanks

I have one of these as a work van. And have had that message several times. It has gone back to the garage for a forced re gen. Before it gets to that point you should get a message ‘exhaust filter blocked drive to clean. Then if you do that it cleans itself . And you get a another message to say it done it.

Welcome!
Take it back and get the seller to fix it is my cynical answer if that is possible which based on the time since purchase, warranty etc should definitely be activated:

It's too much of a coincidence.
Regarding the DPF issue, just cleaning it is no good, the fault that is causing the filter to fail to regenerate needs to be found and fixed plus (IMHO, others differ) a forced regen can cause problems as it generates very high temperatures.
The only way I can think of a clean "fixing" the problem is if you ONLY do very short journeys around town which does not give the vehicle any time at the right conditions to carry out the regen?

There are multiple (and I mean literally hundreds!) of posts on this type of problem and I'll post my Ultimate Source of DPF advice (dn't be fobbed off and keep a diary):
