MK7 Fiesta central locking

Featured Replies

I own a MK7 Fiesta (62 plate). The other day when I tried to unlock the car, nothing happened and the car remained locked. I had recently changed the key fob battery and the car battery was changed last year so ruled this out. I tried to manually open the car with the key blade and this didn’t work either. I managed to open the boot and had to access the car to the drivers seat this way (must have looked amusing! 😂).

I started the car normally to check if it was the battery, turned it off then opened the doors manually from the inside. The key fob then opened the doors normally from the inside and everything was normal after that following a few open / close cycles. Since then, there has been no repeat of this happening. To recap, both key fobs work on the car and have new batteries and the car battery is a year old. Has anybody got any ideas?

Hi,

What happened when you tried to unlock manually? Key moved a little? Or not at all? The manual part is completely mechanical, there is no electrical fault that can stop that working. Usually the lock is just seized because they're rarely used. Some graphite spray can help that.

The fob seems to work fine now, so likely just a random glitch. Wouldn't waste time trying to find a fault that is no longer there.
