Driveway replacement of AC condenser on 2012 1.0 EcoBoost.

Featured Replies

Further to the post linked below and having never had my AC condenser replaced, I am now considering doing it myself. Unfortunately, despite there being a few detailed guides on YouTube, none of them seem to relate to the 1.0 EcoBoost. As a result, I am unclear whether or not it's possible (on a driveway with the car on axle stands) to extract the condenser from the rad pack without draining the coolant and completely removing the rad pack. There's a guy who does it on a 1.5TDCi (see below) but I'm not sure if that means it's doable on the 1.0.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any advice on the best method for doing this. I am very much an amateur mechanic (I've successfully done my brakes, changed coolant, oil etc) but keen to learn. Is taking off the front bumper recommended?

Thanks.

A rad pack is a rad pack really.

They'll be very similar

Just remember to get it degassed before you start, just in case

Did this successfully (I hope!) today. Not too difficult with the car on axle stands at the front and the front bumper off. There was no need to mess with the engine cooling system.

Just to add the (hopefully) final chapter to this, it’s now been filled with gas and is working well.
