2012 Ford Focus cuts out on stopping

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone

I have a 2012 Focus that cuts out when I come to a stop or sit idling for more than a minute, it starts up again straight away, this has been going on for about 6 months, it’s had a full service and a new battery and just passed its MOT, and wondered if anyone has any suggestions.

Hi,

Which engine is it?

Also just checking it's definitely not just the stop start feature?

1.6 petrol, and it doesn’t have stop start.

Ok, that is strange. Usually this fault is caused by a vacuum leak, but that can affect the emissions readings for MOT so may be something else in this case.

There are two 1.6 petrols offered at this time. I assume this is the non-turbo version. In which case I would recommend checking the thin rubber vacuum hose under the plastic inlet manifold. That is the one that usually splits.

crank position sensors on many vehicles age and get weird when hot - symptoms are stumbling and stalling at mini roundabouts / junctions, then refusing to fire up on a hot engine.... leave for 30 to 60 mins and its all normal - progressively gets worse and worse till one day it won't run till you fit a new one
