Kuga reverse lights, sensor and camera issue

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 71 plate Ford Kuga ST-Line and I’ve been having issues for a few weeks with the reverse lights, sensors and camera all not working when I put it into reverse. Had a couple of diagnostics that’s shown no faults and the reverse switch has been checked it’s showing as working they even swapped it with another just to check and nothing is coming on still. It’s booked back in as the mechanic (experienced with fords) is even a bit stumped what to try next. He thinks could be something simple like a faulty wire or even a software update. Has anyone else had this? Is there anything else that we could be missing?

Hi, I have an older Kuga which has a sync 3 system so may be differentto yours. If were mine I'd check for any sync updates and if that doesn’t help would try a factory reset.

Faulty wire sounds most likely. A fault on the reverse switch to BCM wire won't necessarily show up on diagnostics. The reason for this is because the car expects to see no voltage from the switch for the majority of the time.

Theoretically the BCM could match the switch position to the direction taken from the ABS sensors to check whether the switch works in reverse. However the additional wiring and software would probably not be worthwhile.
