Fuel Line Leak - Fix Advice

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Getting a leak on the fuel line, specifically from the joint circled in the attached picture. Am hoping it will be a simple fix using some fuel hose and clamps, but could do with some advice from those who've done it before.

  1. Does anyone know the diameter of the steel fuel line being used?

  2. Am I better off attaching the hose with a barb/clamp connection into the black (rubber?) angled bit that looks fine? If not am unsure how to manage the fact that it's a larger diameter than the main line.

  3. Best way to cut through the line?

Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

Looking at the rust on the metal section I think the whole lot needs replacing.

If you mean on the pipe, the rust ends just off the picture frame and the rest looks fine, hence why I asked about just repairing the section. Will contact a garage about possibly replacing the whole thing though as definitely worth considering.

If you mean on the metal underneath then perhaps, although this spot is particularly bad. It's an old car.

Forgot to mention it's a 2009 1.6 diesel.

I did just mean the fuel pipe. Not keen on the idea of cutting the rusty part out and fitting a rubber flex in its place so I won't advise any further on that.

Very strange that the brake pipes appear to be fine though, it's usually those that flake and rust.

The surface rust on the chassis there wouldn't bother me too much. But I would check other areas, particularly sills and suspension mounting points, to make sure they're still structurally sound.
