Ford Ranger BIK assessment

Featured Replies

I had a 2021 Ranger 2.0 diesel as a company vehicle in 1994 & 95. Everything I read tells me that it should have been treated as a light commercial vehicle for BIK on income tax assessment but HMRC just won’t accept that and has charged me a fortune. Anyone else had this issue?

Doh! I meant 2024 & 25

This isn't really my area however I know they did change the tax class on Rangers for the 25/26 tax year. They are now classed as cars rather than vans.

If HMRC are also saying it was a car for the 24/25 tax year then I'm not sure why that would be. Maybe something to do with the body type or engine type. Or maybe they have got that year wrong.

Thanks Tom, I should have mentioned this was a crew cab configuration. I can’t see any reason why HMRC are refusing to classify it as light commercial, it seems to fit in with their specifications but they just tell me no. They have effectively just stonewalled so I’m trying to discover as much information as I can in the hope of finding some way to escalate

No problem. Not sure if you've read this page, but this explains the 2025 change that affected Rangers.
