Mark 4 1.25 Very Uneconomical To Run Any Advice?

Featured Replies

Hi i have recently bought a 98 fiesta 1.25 ghia zetec for a supposedly cheap run around, when i got the car the heater wasnt working or the engine revving above 4k. I have replaced the heater control valve and switch gear as well as the mass air flow meter. the heater now works and the engine revs fully. The engine temperature needle is always at cold unless stuck in traffic and its thirsty to drive. For 20 quid i get 110 miles or 160 for 30 quid, i think this is about 23-26 mpg!. I bought the car as it has been serviced regular and had new plugs + HT coil pack last year.Im suspecting the engine thermostat to be goosed as well :(, will this make the car run thirsty? if the engine isnt getting up to temp. any advice would be greatly appreciated

If your thermostat is not working the car will always be on choke therefore injecting way too much fuel, change that first and then see how it goes, my dad has a 1.25 s plate fiesta and he does around 30 miles on a tank so around 30mpg but that is short runs. Im not a mechanic but like i said the if the car thinks its cold then it will be injecting way to much fuel.
