Rear brake revision kit

Featured Replies

To fix a sticky parking brake on the rear right I am doing a rebuild with a brake revision kit, new seals, slider pins, pistons etc. This on a 2007 S-MAX 2.5 ST.
I have seen a couple of youtube videos and the contents of the rebuild kit is identical to the one I purchased that is supposedly compatible with my car.
There is a snag however. The 'cup-like' rubber that sits around the shaft of the handbrake assembly does not fit. This due to the fact that there is a small metal
cup inside the hole where you would want to put the rubber cup. As can be seen on the photo there are small grooves at both the outside (between the caliper and the metal cup)
and the inside (between the metal cup and the bronze cilinder that is pressed into the caliper. The old rubber was very difficult to remove and small parts of it still reside in the grooves.
Does this ring any bells? Did the original seal consist of metal cup plus rubber pressed together and should I now remove the metal cup and use the new rubber seal without such a cup.
Or do I need a different revision kit.?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Examined it more closely and the metal cup was clearly part of the original seal, it came out easily and now the new rubber-only seal fits. Happy days and case closed.
