I suggest to avoid the update system on the Ford website. This used to work perfectly fine but approximately 2 Years ago several known errors were introduced. The Ford update system is simply rubbish, and Ford seems not to be interested to fix it properly. There are multiple signs that SYNC 3 is reaching the end of support soon so I would be surprised if Ford comes with a fix. The update software itself is available on the Ford servers but without a way to download it and create the USB drive you cannot use it.

Years ago, Cyanlabs developed a much better, faster and more dependable update method. The Cyanlabs SYN3Updater. This tool is far superior to the Ford system and downloads the required update files directly from the Ford servers. In other words: Cyanlabs offers the exact same SYNC 3 software but combined it with an update method that actually works.

I strongly recommend using Cyanlabs for updating SYNC 3.

Thanks for that advice. Just checked out cyan labs online and found this video. However, here is a screenshot of mine and it looks as though it is already updates to version 3.4. I’d be interested in your thoughts on this?

Also, do you have any links that you’d advise using please on updating mine if it needs it? Something that talks me through exactly how to upgrade? Thanks in advance, Helen

You SYNC system software is indeed already on the most recent version. SYNC 3.4 version 23188 was released in 2024 and since then no new versions were released.

There may however be a map update available. The maps are updated separately from the system software. The most recent EU map is currently F13. A new version is expected soon (which may well be the final version that is going to be available).

Thanks for your prompt response. Do you have any ideas how I would go about updating the maps please?

I have the very same update number on mine (SYNC 3.4.23188), so I’m thinking it must have the latest map updates?

What you’ve made me realise, is that it’s not the end of the world if I just leave well alone! Thank you Wilco. I’m gonna mark this thread as solved now, thanks again!

Now I just need to have a go at getting the app section working! As far as I can make out, I’ll need to connect my iPhone to the car with a “suitable lead”…whatever that means! And I hope I can get Google maps to work as sat nav! 🤞🏻😆

I suggest to check the settings for the map version that is currently installed.

The latest available EU map version is F13. If the system is still on an older map version, it is worth to update the maps.
