98 Mondeo Auto

Hi wonder if anyone can help.I have a 1998 2.0 auto mondeo.its done 118,000 and has alway drove like a dream.......its the car i use to get back and from to work.last night i used the kickdown for the first time........boooooooo then when i stopped and the next round about the car wouldnt move in drive , but moved in 1st then 2nd .it was the same when i stared this morning. i checked autobox fluid. it was low and i have since topped up.so when im putting into drive and press gas it only revs and dosnt move.but will move when i put in 1st 2nd or reverse .. its a good old bus ....id hate to scrap it...any help would be great thanks jason

Sounds like the torque converter as gone (same as a clutch), find yourself an auto greabox place near you and ask theem for some advice cos iirc theres belts in there that wear out and changable.

i would check selector arm first to make sure that it is actually moving into auto & not worn.
