Ford Focus Stuck In 1St Gear

Featured Replies

Hi All,

When i pulled up to some lights this morning i put the car in first gear. When i pulled off it was fine until i tried to change to second and the gear stick wouldnt budge. I managed to get the car home as i was only a few hundred metres away. It still wont move. Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks

Can you move the gearstick at all or is that stuck in first postion?

hi mate, does the clutch pedal feel the same? ive not dived under my focus yet but i would think there is some form of linkage assembly from the base of the gear lever to the gearbox on the engine. check this assembly for any loose pins or siezed joints. will be under the car tomorrow doing an aux belt so will have a decco and hopefully post some ideas. good luck.

ok been under the car today doing the aux belt. there are two cables from the base of the gear lever, to the gearbox (back of the engine, lower, passenger side). Havent got a manual but obviously these cables select the gear you want. Now on my car in neutral both levers that the cables attach to are in the vertical position. Couldnt drag the wife out in the wind and rain so cant help much more however if one of these cables is broken then obviously selectig a gear and releasing it would a problem. maybe a ( remove battery before changing windscreen wiper!! haynes manual) could help, must get one myself. hope this is of help

Hi.

Just happened to my car today, exactly the same, stuck in first.

Did you find out what it was?
