hey all

Can anyone tell me whats the best way to improve sound quality and loudness in the mk7 fiesta, if its uprating the speakers then what sizes etc

if you have done it then please share what you have changed!

any advice would be appreciated!

looking into pioneer, im pretty much a newb when it comes to tech specs of speakers, if im using the standard stereo surely the lower the minimum power the better?

just need some general direction on what to get, as im looking into

I fitted my own rear speakers as it didnt come with any from the factory but I bought the 17cm ones from Halfords and they are also Pioneer and they aint too bad to be honest.... Just a word of warning, the rear speaker access is a pig of a job as you have to take the rear seats out completely strip the rear interior panels but im sure you will be able to do it, best of luck buddy!

i might change just the fronts for now and see how that goes!

Im curius if you need an amplifier if you want to change speaker to a better one than ford provide us? does anyone know?

I have TS-E170ci components up front, and the TS-E1702i coaxials in the back that you linked to. They were bought from www.online-caraudio.co.uk who seem a bit cheaper for Pioneer than anywhere else I found. Remember you'll also need to buy or make mounting rings to replace the originals (see the photos in my earlier post). With the front components you linked to, I don't know if the tweeters will fit where the original goes. Mine certainly didn't so I mounted them on top of the dash, which is a better location for them anyway.

Oh, the numbers are a bit (deliberately) misleading. The "nominal power" is the maximum RMS power you should run them at long term (exceed this and it'll get hot and shorten its life), while the "maximum power" is the momentary peak (exceed this and the cone is likely to rip out of its mount). You don't need to worry if running them from the head unit. The efficiency tells you how loud it will sound for a given amount of power. Most speakers are about 90-92 db/w/m. That means at 1w RMS with a 1khz wave then it'll produce 90 db of sound when your ear is 1m from the speaker. Which is quite loud. My speakers are relatively inefficient at 88db, which means I need to set the volume a little louder. This isn't a problem unless you need to turn the volume up so high it starts to cause the amp to distort the sound.

Ideally yes. I haven't and it's only with certain music I notice it at all (rock mostly). If you listen really loud (I have my volume set around 10-12 normally) or use very inefficient speakers, then it might be worthwhile. I listen while driving, not parked up, so it would be hard for me to notice a small improvement in quality over the noise from the tyres and engine. I'd suggest replacing the speakers first and then add an amp if you get distortion.

yeah as you say. Ideally it would be nice to have amplifier and play some music with and without to check the difference.
