last night i was talking to someone who works at ford putting together the fiesta and he said last night to me hows the car going, and all i said was the gearbox sometimes crunches and gets annoying going into reverse, as i sure a few of us with the early fez's know... he said to me though ford completely knew about it when they even designed the car, the gearbox is an ib5 and uses synchronising cones between the gears to help them flow, but the reverse gear dont have this cone so hence the crunching... they have put it in the new models but i thought thats abit silly that doing something and knowing too well its not perfect or good as can be?

and on the topic of getting cars with bluetooth but without usb, to having usb he said he gonna ask the people on the line what it needs and could it be possible :)

It all comes down to money.

Adding sycro to reverse will cost Ford money to do, but generally wont help them sell the cars for more, or sell many more cars. Yes it would be nice, but its not a deal breaker.

Anyone who's had a Ford in the past, or test driven a Fiesta before purchase probably knew that reverse would crunch.....yet we still all bought the cars!

I would guess that by new models, they mean new models that use new designs of gearbox. I assume that the Fiesta uses the gearbox from the previous model(s) and until they redesign that box or replace it, the lack of syncro will remain.

haha spot on, not sure ive driven many/any fords that dont crunch, its the "the ford crunch"

If you put the clutch in and wait 5 seconds it gives the gearbox time to stop the drive between forwards and reverse, then there is no crutch, trust :)

i never had any car before so its all new to me haha... yeh but apparently they fitted this sycro 'cone' as he put it to the newer fez's... they made it a mk 7. sumat didn't they?
