Fiesta Flame In Flames!

Featured Replies

Hey guys not been on for a while.

I went to start the car today and it sounded a bit funny then it ran as normal but then started to smell kinda burning. Smoke started to fill the car up through the heater vents so i turned the car off again and got out to see smoke billowing out the bonnet. Anyone have any ideas of what could have caused this? And if so any idea how much it will cost to fix?

Thanks Steve

Sounds like oil to me. Is the oil filler cap on okay, dip stick in tight?

Did you open the bonnet and look to see where the smoke was coming from? Could be a hose split and water getting on exhaust if its steam as apposed to smoke

without inspection its impossible to say, it could be anything from the starter motor to engine oil burning on the exhaust..

There is this on STOC.....

i THINK it may have been the battery but cant find the original thread about it :/

Turns out there has been something stuck in the alternator belt and thats whats been burning, but the antifreeze has frozen so i cant run it to see what other damage if any has been done to it.

Ive decided i hate winter.

The anti freeze has frozen? How old is it, or is it too weak in concentration, as it should not have frozen. Lets hope it hasn't damaged the engine.

I only put it in the car about 2 weeks ago but it was just the ready mixed stuff, does anyone have any ideas on thawing the engine out so that i can run it?

Is this guy for real?

Your best bet is to just leave it alone to thaw out naturally. Don't try to light a fire under it as the whole car might go up!

Unfortunately, as water expands when it freezes, there's a good chance that you'll have cracked the block and / or the cylinder head.

Cracked block = scrap engine I'm afraid!

Cracked head = still a big bill...

Thanks for the help, got it thawed out then the alternator belt snapped, then it started a whole new world of troubles, the power steering pump and pipes need replacing, my local garage has quoted me just over 450 quid for that, then i slid it out on a corner in the snow tonight and have mangled the wheels and possibly the steering rack so i think it might be time for it to be put away for a long vacation.
