Hi, ive just brought a 07 S-max diesel 2.0 and the exhaust is completley rotten. its done 70.000 miles and im concerned as to why this has happened so early on and has anyone else had this problem. also do you know how much it will cost to get a new one fitted ?

Hi Paul, There could be a number of reasons for the exhaust rotting out at this mileage. The first one that comes to mind is the environment the car has been used in ie has the car been used in coastal areas where there was a lot of salt content? Has the car been stood for a period before your purchase? Was the recent use of the car mostly short journeys which can produce condensation inside the exhaust itself? I do not know the cost of replacing the exhaust but it may be worth considering investing in a stainless system which can last for 10 years+. shop around for the best prices.

i remember a story on here a while back, a guy with a year old s max just out of warranty for the exhaust and it fell off the car because it was so badly rotten. my car is about 9 years old and with exception of the cat im still on the original exhaust
