Head Gasket Failure

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New to this site, however thought it was the best place to get some help on this topic. Yes it does appear that my 58 plate has a head gasket failure, as im losing coolant and that bubbling noise appears when you switch off the engine after driving.

Now the real question for me is simple - will this be covered under the manufactures warranty? I have searched the internet and no one seems to have a definitive answer for this.

All help would be great.

Oh if it isnt covered, then what should be the cost to have this work done?

If a UK car should be covered under the 3 year warranty, although I'm sure they will try and find a way out of it, "you're not meant to actually start the engine and drive the vehicle sir"

What engine is it?

Report the problem ASAP and I'd try not to use it, they will try to blame you.

Take off the oil filler cap and look inside. If there is white gunge there, yes the head gasket has gone, as water will be getting in the engine and condensing.

Whatever tho' I'd be back to the dealers as losing water is not good

Well in fairness nothing like that in the oil cap, however performance is really down. Im getting 41.9 mpg out of the car on average and it is even counting down fuel usage when coasting down hills - which used to see the counter actually increase the number of miles left in the tank.

It is the 1.25 (82) petrol engine.

I was convinced that it was the head gasket the other day as no leaks could be found, however on the other hand, some of the other head gasket signs dont seem to be there. All seems to have come about since its 2nd service - who knows what they have done to it!

You don't mention how many miles it's done - isn't the warranty either 3 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first)?

Pretty shocking that a 2 year old car having a blown head gasket though!

ive got 1.4 petrol and 42mpg is my average consumption.

How much coolant are you losing? Bubbling noise doesnt sound good :/
