Loud Knocking Of Engine!!!

Featured Replies

Hey guys! I drive a 04 fiesta 1.4 silver and last night my oil warning light appeared and went straight out, thought nothing of it other than my oil level was low and was going to top it up tonight but when I was driving in this morning I started to hear a slight knocking noise which seems to come from the top of my engine.

With me being not that far from work I decided to carry on and just sort it when I get there but the noise started to get really loud and the car seemed to have a decrease in power to the point I cudnt get more than 30mph out the car!

All of a sudden my engine warning light and oil light both came on at the same time to which I decided to stop but the car kept cutting out during gear change.

I got out the car and could smell oil burning!

If anyone could direct me in what they think might be wrong or better still experienced this themselves and could tell me the extent of damaged iv caused it would be much appreciated!!! Thanks guys

Your car had ran very low on oil and it sounds like it has overheated. You have probably caused some damage inside the engine, hense the knocking sound, could be big ends.

When the car has cooled down, check to see if there is any oil in. You may get away with topping it up, but I do think it sounds costly. Fingers crossed for you.

hi

i had the same problem when the weather first started becoming cold mid november

my engine warning light came on and stopped on for a few weeks. i went to a ford garage and they were quoting me £400 to get a new ERG valve fitted - if this was to go then they said that my car would have a maximum mph of 30 and would eventually conk out. the light has no gone off, but i'm a bit worried about the car itself. had no problems since
