My 03 fiesta 1.4 tdci will not engage gear in 3rd 4th or 5th any ideas will be much appreciated.

    Hi

    I was driving in third gear when the car started to rev but there was no pull from engine, also a whining started, after that the car would not engage in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear. Had to drive to garage in 2nd. My fiesta is a 2003 1.4 tdci manual. Garage told me new gearbox! but i have been told that they are very reliable units.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.
