Orange Fuel Light

Featured Replies

Hi,

I picked up a Fiesta MK7 style from the dealer yesterday, really enjoying the car so far. However, I have a few small issues with the car, if anyone could shed some light on these issues, that would be great.

Firstly, there was apparently £20 worth of fuel put in the car by the dealer. When I picked the car up, the fuel needle was around about on the halfway mark. I would say I drove about 50 ish miles throughout the day. Took the car out this morning, and the orange fuel light came on within a few miles, although the petrol needle was hovering around the quarter mark. I was wondering why the fuel light came on when the needle was around the quarter mark, is this normal with a fiesta?

Secondly, when I test drove the car, I thought I saw a temperature display on the display unit. I've been playing with the menu etc and had no luck with finding how to get the display up. Just wondering is this actually on the Style model or was I mistaken?

Any help would be appreciated

The fuel light comes on when it thinks you have 50 miles left. This is based on your 'current driving style' and average fuel consumption etc. If the car is brand new or has only done very short trips recently, the average will be lower than normal. Hence, to cover 50 miles at that rate it will need a lot more fuel and therefore the 1/4 mark is feasible. I know when I picked my car up the average MPG was extremely low. Once you've reset the average (and probably filled up), everything should settle down and give more accurate figures.

Regarding the temperature, it should always be displayed on the top line in between the rev counter and speedo. The bottom line is for the trip computer, but I don't believe this is on the Style (maybe mistaken?). Can you push the end of the indicator stalk in and scroll through options?

Thank you for your reply. Oh right I see, I part exchanged my clio for the fiesta and it was entirely different with regards to the fuel light. To reset it, do I just push the pin just next to the rev counter?

I think you are right with regard to the temperature, because I can not push the indicator stalk in. I was almost sure I saw the temperature appear when I took the car for a test drive. Oh well, I can live without it, but it is a handy little gadget to have.

Do you still have a two line display between the rev counter and speedo? If so, I assume this shows trip miles and odometer? That being the case, the pin I imagine would only reset the trip miles. I can't honestly say any more about the fuel light on a non trip computer car - I'd simply say fill up (preferably a full tank) and keep an eye on the mileage respective to the needle. I can do around 290-300 miles before my light comes on with the needle at about 1/8th or less.
