Advice On Advisory Notice

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've got an S Reg Ford Fiesta that I've had for 2 years. I love it, never had a problem with it running.

At last years MOT test I was advised that there was some corrosion underneath but it wasn't excessive. I just took it for its MOT test today fully expecting that it would fail and I would have to say goodbye to it and buy a new car. I was really surprised that it passed.

I have 4 advisory notice items (none of which are the corrosion). The items are:

- Nearside trailing arm has slight play in a pin/bush

- Offside trailing arm has slight play in a pin/bush

- Nearside front anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a pin/bush

- Offside front anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a pin/bush

My questions are should I worry about the corrosion that was mentioned last year or forget about it? I'm assuming it's safe to drive if it wasn't picked up at today's MOT.

Should I get the things advised fixed or could they disappear at next year's MOT too? Are they big jobs?

I was thinking I was going to have to buy a new car anyway based on last year's MOT so can anyone give me any advice on whether it's better to stick with this car that has served me well, or try and sell it and buy something else.

Sorry, I'm so clueless when it comes to cars and have noone to ask for advice so anyone who can help I'd really appreciate it!

The 4 advisory notices you've got at this MOT are all suspension parts, which in my experience are only likely to get worse. As they're only down as advisories they should be safe at the moment, but will eventually become dangerous, affecting your braking and handling, so it may be worth getting a price to repair/replace them. It may be worth getting the corrosion priced up as well at the same time.

At least this way you'll know what it's going to cost you before you decide what to do with the car.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it along to a garage soon and get a quote on the work.
