Fiesta Mk6 Fuel Economy Getting Worse

Featured Replies

HI all,

New to this board but it looked like the best place to get some advice/help with my Fiesta.

I got a MK6 Fiesta Finesse 1.3 petrol (52 plate) a little over a year ago. In the past few months I've noticed I'm not getting anywhere near the same distance from a full tank as I used to. I used to get around about 380 miles from the tank (although for some reason the first half of the tank was always better for distance than the second). I'm now getting around 280-300 per full tank. Ideally, what kind of range should I be getting from this car?

I drive reasonably sensibly most of the time. My commute is from Preston to Manchester on the M61 and East Lancs Road everyday and I try to stick to 55-60mph for most of the journey. With the fuel gauge on the dash being split into 8ths I was aiming for around 60-65 miles per 8th for the first half of the tank. Filled up the other day with Shell's "Fuel Saver" petrol and purposefully was very very careful with my drive (light footed, don't accelerate away too hard, change quickly through the gears etc) and I got 42 miles from the first 8th indicator.

Now I know that the fuel gauge isn't 100% accurate, but why would I now be getting a 20 mile drop compared with a few months ago? Why am I also getting 200 miles from the first half but only up to 100 from the second half? I'm not very car or technically minded so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help

Dave
