Bad Smell Inside Car

Featured Replies

Last night when I was driving as soon as I put my heater on a really bad smell came inside the car - it was dreadful. I thought it was a sewerage smell which sometimes wafts over the area I was driving through. This morning it happened again on the way to work, which was a different area, and was evident after only about 5 minutes driving. I took the car out at lunchtime with a colleague, to test it out again, but it didn't happen again, and didn't happen driving home. I am wondering whether something has crawled inside my engine and died! But nothing has dropped out! Has anyone else experienced this? It's really not nice. The car is an 05 so just out of warranty. :(

Sounds like it could be the smell from the 'Cat'. Contrary to what most people think, the temperature in this country is seldom hot enough for the Cat to perform at it's peak efficiency and sometimes when it's cold it emits the usual 'rotten egg' smell. You didn't say if you were driving in traffic or not so it may have been the car in front of yours that was actually emitting the smell, and you just happen to be on the recieving end.

if you havent used you a/c for some time it could also be the cause if its a stale smell

i'd say the aircon aswell (thats if its fitted?) as when its not used very often the bacteria gets quite lively and creats a strong smell, sounds like you need a filter change or an aircon cleaner :)

I'd reccomend changing your socks, or at least turn them inside out!!! lol

Nah i have heard of the air con becoming rather smelly after a while

Definitely sounds like your cat mate! My old fiesta used to do the same, wouldn't worry about it, i got used to the egg smell in the end!
