Reprogramming A New Key

Hey all, names Andy and I'm new to FOC

Just bought a Fiesta Mk5 05 plate. And Loving the car.

Soooo Much better than my Rover 25 02 plate hehehe

I have a question and thought best to ask here.

When I bought the car it only came with a single key with a blue part saying W1 on it.

Now I've been to ford and bought a 3 button key. They charged me £81.25 for the key and cut. But wanted an extra £80 odd to program it.

Is there any way I can get the key to work with my car? Without having to pay such a steep price at my local ford dealer?

Thanks Andy

Hi Andy,

I know only "hack" how to use new key to open/lock the car. I`m not sure if it will work also for MK5 but it works for Focus MK1 and Fiesta MK7 so hopefully not much difference.

Put your blue dot key into ignition.

Within 2 second turn your key 3 times from "0" position to "2" position (to light up the dashboard, but do not start the car) and back

After 3rd round (dashboard lit up) you should hear a "beep", car is now in programming mode.

Press any key on your new 3 button key, you should hear a "beep" or the side indicators should blink, I do not remember now

Turn your ignition off. Done.

Now you should be able to open/lock your car with new key.

To use new key to start the car is more difficult as you need to program your ECU to recognise the key, most probably only Ford dealers (or good friends with approprate cables and SW) are able to do this
