Mpg 1.6 Focus

Featured Replies

I have a Y plate Focus 1.6 , it's done 131,000 miles.

I do a 50 mile round trip every day to work , mainly country route.

There's some hilly bits , it's not all flat , and I don't race but I don't crawl along.

5th gear is quite a high ratio , and generally revs are always below 3000.

Since I fill it up regularly , I always get about 425 miles before the fuel light comes on , and I always get about 48 litres in the tank.

Unless my maths is badly wrong , that's 40 mpg.

I was starting to think it would be worthwhile to get a smaller , cheaper diesel when/if this car finally dies.

In the time I've had it , I have replaced clutch , cam belt , front discs and water pump.

What am I doing wrong ?

since i got my 2006 foci 1.6 ti-vct i can confirm i get 39mpg average worst 35 best has been 46mpg simply by feathering the accelerator the real world mpg for this car is actually 34mpg you could get a diesel but the real mpg for those are around 40mpg given the higher price for diesel its not worth it no car does what the manufacturer says it does

2005 2.0TDCI Titanium Saloon 101k on the clock. I always use Shell V-Power diesel

Long motorway trips 58-60mpg

Around town 46mpg

Averages 50-52mpg

never really drops below 46mpg..........so not great stats compared with the very modern 2.0 diesels but considering the car is nearly 7yrs old i dont think its too bad really

hi,

thought I might add that I get about 41mpg according to the computer on my petrol 1.6 (standard engine - not the variable cam timing one) - I haven't bothered doing the brim test. That is for about 50 miles a day and a mix of M1, the lovely north circular and a few normal roads- so a mix of start stop and motorway driving. I do try to drive smoothly but mine needs a good bit of gas to get it moving from a standstill. I use mainly shell unleaded although I tried Tesco momentum once as i had a fuel voucher but never again! The car ran pretty badly after I fueled up with that stuff and mpg went down to 38 mpg doing the same weekly drive. I managed to get about 55mpg once on a long drive although I reset the computer when I was on the motorway ;)

I just did the test and from full tank to light on I got 335 miles and that's pretty much 50/50 combined motorway and town. Costs exactly £59.00 for a full tank.
