Cheap Car Insurance?

Featured Replies

having some trouble finding insurance for my fiesta mk4. Any ideas for cheap insures for students?

depends how old you are, I had S reg (2 years old) ford Ka2 (blue) and was quoted over £1000, but I altered my age by 1 year so I was 21, and it halved to over £500, so dealer gave me 20 days free, and so my insurance is due on my birthday!

(on my 4th car since then!)

I'm 21 and also on my fourth car. and it's my third Fiesta!

This year Admiral were cheapest for me, up until that it was Direct Line.

There is no one cheap insurer, they all have different criteria. Follow this guide here, ensure you get the best price. If it takes you a few hours but saves £100 it's more than you would have made at work!

+1 for the Money Saving Expert guide.

Lots of great free advice on that site to save you money :D

i'll be blunt, there's no such thing as cheap car insurance for students.

I'm guessing you're around 18/19, when i insured my MK4 i was 18, 0 NCB and it was £1600 TPFT, no thrills insurance.

Now i'm on a MX-5 (a tad different i admit!) which i'm paying £1900 with a £1075 excess on the policy.

Want a car at our age? Just got to lump the ridiculous costs.

Well I am 22 and mine was £550, its my first car so I had no no-claims bonus. Only put down to do 5000 miles though! I found Admiral tend to give the cheapest prices!

Admiral have always seemed to be the cheapest for me but only from a new quote. their renewal rates are terrible.

Im currently with Aviva (not on comparisons) my last price was done on 22 years old 4 years no claims £250 excess and it came out at £450

The only way to find the best deal is to do the leg work. I could recommend you the company I use, as could everyone else, but it doesn't mean they would give you a price you're happy with. There are so many variables regarding insurance nobody can give you advice other than to check all the websites and ring companies up, they tend to offer the best quotes over the phone as they can tailor the cover to exactly what you want whereas the online quotes are more rigid.

It's a long and laborious chore, but if you want the best price it's the only way I'm afraid. And if people tell you it will go down when you hit 25, 30 or whatever, they are talking rubbish, there's no discerible difference between 24 and 25 or 29 and 30. The only difference occurs when you compare an 18 year old to a 25 year old, unfortunately you don't go from 18 to 25 in a year. I'm in my 40's now and my insurance has never gone down from one year to the next due to an age change.

check out quinn direct, ive got a great deal with them

Quinn Direct are cheap, but there not great, they are not based in this country they are irish. When i called them out because i had broken down they tried claiming it as a car accident and that i would have to put in a claim if they were to call people out to help. also the price of my premium almost double in the second year. in my opinion i would'nt trust them, assuming this is you first year driving then i think £1800 would be a reasonable quote mate

Because that's the way the world works.

When insurance companies pay out, they have to recoup the money, they are a buisness afterall. With all these cases of fronting, fraudelent claims, no insurance etc, somebody has to pay for it and as in most cases the consumer will bear the brunt.

It's not feasible to put the costs on only those who claim as this would make the cost impossible for those to pay, hence more people out there going un insured, which will magnify the problems.

You're in the worst age group, so therefore the risk to the insurance company is greater than say my age group, hence your high quote, but everyone's insurance has gone up because of the increase in pay outs, not just yours.

I see your on your dad's policy, so are you fronting and the cause of one of the reasons why your insurance has gone up??? Honestly, you couldn't make it up.

Its my dads car... i use it occasionally

It's just that you said it was your car earlier.

I think I've answered your question though and when it does become your car ;) make sure you're the main driver on the insurance.

Don't panic, I don't work for the insurance company. ;)
