Engine Id Help Please

Featured Replies

I am needing to buy an engine for a project

I have sourced this engine which is brand new but the seller isnt sure of its origin, can anyone help me with this please,

I could do with knowing what size and what car its out of?

heres the link to it

LINK

Thanks in advance

It looks like a Zetec engine. The manifold looks like its off a 1.8SI Escort. Cant see why it would be rear wheel drive though.

Cheers for the reply,

Your not the only one to point out why it would be a rear wheel drive, don't make much sense to me either.

The seller is adamant its from a ford focus but the earlier engine just could do with it being 100% sure.

Still not clear though

I think he means he was gonna use it as a RWD engine. If it is mounted logitudily and a Sierra gearbox mated to it, it is RWD.

Well its def a Zetec lump, although manifold looks Escort.

To be honest i'd buy one from an exsisting car that you can see running, and rebuild it. Better than buying an engine that you dont know what it is.

Is their no sure way from the part numbers thats on it to find out? Just like the sound of a new engine.

Best bet would be to ring Ford and give them the numbers mate

agree...get an engine thats been run in...then hear it purr before you buy...then rebuild the basics...you will get more reliability this way....

Honda back in the day bought up all 1500cc blocks for their F1 cars...but they had to have done 100k miles or they wouldnt touch them...as they knew if 100k has been done that the block and head were good...for one race!!

I not suggesting buy a 100k engine...but theres a principle there somewhere! B)
