Fiesta Flame 54 Reg - Choke Problems (I Think!!)

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've just joined, so hope someone will be able to help me with my query!

I bought a Ford Fiesta Flame 1.4 54 reg, last December time, and it was all ok. A good few weeks later, I got in the car to drive to work and half way down my road I had to stop to let someone past and when i stopped the car stalled, i started the engine and drove off but it did the same thing when i came to a stop at the end of the road. Basically, since then its been doing it on and off.

When it's fine, I'll start the car and the revs will sit at about 600 and then the choke will kick in which takes the revs to about 1200ish and all is fine. Although when it's not, I'll start the car and the revs will hover around 500/600 and the choke will not come on even if its freezing cold, and i cant drive off until its wamred up a little because as soon as i drop the clutch to brake and stop the revs drop to 500 and usually stalls.

About a week ago, for a few days on the trot, it was really good and the choke would come on as soon as i started the engine and would sit at 1200ish again, but when i stop it will not dip below the revs that it was sitting at (ie 1200ish) which makes me think thats what it should be doing all the time, obviously until the car is warmed up and at normal revs. Bearing in mind that this was the first time that this has happened (revs at 1200 when i start the car)

Hope this makes sense, apologies for my lack of knowledge and if this doesnt read very mechanically!

All help/advice will be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,

Tash

hi i dont have a fiesta but i would be very surprised if your car has a choke. i think it would be fuel injection. in the first instance you should get a new air filter if yours is old ( over 12 months old) and then check the throttle body for any muck that might have built up it can cause the throttle valve to stick. give the throttle body internal a good clean and whilst your there give the throttle position sensor a good clean, then see how things go. it may be your idle control valve going on the blink however check the other stuff to see if it cures the problem ok!
