Spraying Plasics Info ????

Featured Replies

oryt ive been asking about for quotes to spray front grill, fog lamp covers, and rear defuser gloss black on me mk7 zs.the problem is most garages are saying they wont touch it incase the paint wont stick to the plastic and flake off.

has any one who has had the plastics sprayed had any problems with the paint flaking off or is it sound to crack on and get them sprayed?

I'm also looking at getting this done (along with the silver plastics inside > frozen white)

They've all warned me about cracking & stone chips - not had any problem getting quotes though - range from £240-£600

Let me know if you find anywhere better!

yeah 240 been cheapest up to now. im not bothered about stone chips its the cracking that i wanna kno will b a problem or not?

Hi, yeah i got this a from a lot of places when i was trying to get it done, basically i got it from a lot of places cause they were going to layer up the primer to loose the texture, then spray it gloss black then lacquer it. but i found one place that decided to sand the plastic down to loose the texture, then primer it meaning that theres less layers of it so itll not chip off as easily, if you get what i mean? sorry i haven't got the best way of wording things lol. but ive had no problems at all with my grills or diffusers, but my brother has an ST with the gloss black bits and he's noticed a few chips, but i think this is because his grill is so fine that they couldnt sand it.

hope this helps,

Thanks

P.s got mine done for £120 at SQ design saintfield Northern Ireland, cupspoilers front and side for £100

booked myn in yestersday :)£240 garage seemed confident and said they do plastics all the time, he said they dont layer it up or sand it down but use a special adhesive base layer, he said thts the secret to prevent cracking and chipping as it allows the primer to stick. he then smoths the primer and paints it from their. just hope all goes well :)

Is £240 just for the exterior plastics? I was quoted £240 for gloss black exterior & frozen white interior at main Ford dealer (TC Harrison St Neots or Peterborough)
