Main beam lights are always on

The main beam lights on our 2003 1.25 Fiesta are always on as is the blue light on the dash. When you turn the headlights dial from 0 to sidelights to headlights, the main beam just comes on and not the headlights. It has only just started doing this, anyone any ideas? Have checked the fuses and they look OK. The left stalk is in the normal position, all indicators and sidelights are fine.

    does any thing happen when you move the stalk? check its not a sticking relay if the relays are ok it sounds like a new stalk is most likely required.
