Diesel Engine Malfunction Warning

Featured Replies

I have a 90bhp Mk7 Titanium diesel. For several months at least twice a week I have received an engine malfunction warning. Turn off engine, restart goes away for a while. Fraud linked it up to their computer but the computer 'says no' I must be imagining things. Last weekend I was checking the fluids and noticed the air intake on the 'cold' side of the turbo seemed rather loose as did the 'breather?' pipe above not fitting properly. I repositioned the breather and tightened the jubilee clip and hey presto! no more problems and improved fuel consumption. When it is out of warranty I won't be bothering Ford again.

Same problem with mine

It happens every morning, within two minutes the warning light comes on & she goes into 'safe mode' (only rev's to 3000) and sometimes the engine dies. turn it off & restart. When she warms up I turn off, wait a few minutes & restart again & my o9 plate 1.6 Zetec S runs fine all day!!

I've checked the pipes & all seems tight, although the breather has a clip that can't be tightened & there is some oil around the pipe.

I'm thinking it might be a fuel problem & putting injector cleaning fluid in tomorrow

Pete

mine does this once a week or so, took it to ford and twice it came back with turbo pressure too high and second time it was the accelerator switch was faulty.

they just wiped the codes and told me to see how it goes

can you all confirm this is the 90PS version not the 95PS? im interested in this issue - its something I would like to delve into a bit more..

i had this on my 95ps diesel and it turned out it was fixed by updating all the electronic modules withing the car. i couldnt tell you which one in particular did it as i pressed mass updae effectivly

Ford it seemed had an issue with Fuel Filters not going the distance, 37500 miles before they are changed. It seems they would clog up early. Mine had the same symptoms, EML on, in safe mode, surging some days it would be fine others terrible.

I changed it at 29k miles approx, £50 for a filter, and its been fine since. Just a thought.

As to my earlier post- it has been more than a week now ans no engine malfunction - I must be lucky.
