Alternator Belt

Featured Replies

right, 12 months ago i was getting a slight strange noise from the alternator belt around the air con area. it only did it when cold and dissaprered when at normal temp. it went away for quite a while and all of a sudden it re appeared. i have read other people asking similar question and i know of the problems with damper, tensioner etc but due to cost im trying to identify the problem rather than just change the lot. the noise it makes is hard to describe. it sounds like belt slip to clanking and knocking noise as strange as it may be, but its most of the time now air con on can make a slight improvment. i brought some belt slip to try that and when i spray the belt the noise goes completely but reappears when either its drying off or wears off. before this is was spraying de greaser on the belt to see if there was grease or oil but whenever you spray the belt the noise goes for a short while minutes even, which is whats confusing me. any ideas guys.the noise is def not alternator area

cheers

dazza
