Ford Fiesta Zetec-S Tdci Injector Seals/sticky Injectors??

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 56 plate TDCi zetec-s fiesta with around 76000 miles on it - full service history. My car has recently started giving a few issues, the main one now seems to be something to do with the injectors. When the engine is cold it jerks especially at just under 1k revs. It then started making a noise every now and then almost like a lister engine;

We had a look today and could see some coke around one of the injectors;

Any ideas on whether this is a sticky injector or the injector seal?

Thanks,

AJ

is it a 1.4 by any chance? as these are known to have problems with the injector seals.

No - it's the 1.6 diesel engine.

sounds like seals very common problem, not expensive

Hi all,

Replaced all 3 seals on the 1 injector over the weekend, she is a lot smoother but still mis firing, only happens when the engine is cold, and between 500 and 1000 revs it makes the whole car jerk.

Worth blocking off the EGR valve? Any other ideas at all please?

I would have a closer look at the other 3 injectors, just to make sure that the other injector seals aren't on their way out. I had a Fiesta with blown injector seals, which ran fine when warmed up, but rough when cold.

Hi - no useful ideas on your issue but I have the same 1.6 tdci engine with I think the same injectors (the car is a SportVan with ~78 K - owned and serviced by me since new). I assume that you recovered and replaced the copper washer ?

I have a similar leaking injector seal (at least that's what it looks like) on number three cylinder (counting from the left as you look a the front of the engine). Symptoms are a smell of diesel in the cabin (if cabin air recirculation is left at default off position) but also of smoke only at startup. There is a small increase in fuel consumption (now uses perhaps 5 mpg more than before) and of course a large amount of carbon around the injector which I spent Sunday cleaning off. The car (van :)) other wise performs well.

It seems that removing the injector is not that easy - with everything disconnected and most carbon removed the injector would not move.

I wondered if you had any issue removing the unit and if so how you did it - perhaps it just lifted out in your case ? Perhaps you used an injector puller and if so which one ?

Steven
