2000 Focus Diesel Cuts Out

Featured Replies

hi all. my dads got a problem with his 2000 diesel focus. its sometimes cuts out but it will restart straight away after it happens. its happend a few times now. say within a mile of when the car has been started, doesnt matter if the engine is hot or cold its happend on both ocasions. it doesnt cut out when your going at speed just at around 20-30 mph in 3rd or 4th gear. any ideas what it could be? thanx

I had a similar problem, but it was when I accelerated above 4000 RPM, does your dad accelerate well? i.e, does he try to get up to speed quickly? if so, get him to try driving like a grandfather! If you put your foot down, then the fuel gets thrown into the engine quicker, it can then pull debris, or even air (in my case) into the engine, and as we all know - air doesnt burn very well!

if it works better when he drives true grandad style, then replace the fuel filter as a starting point!
