Suprised to see the Renault Megane 250RS beat the more powerful Focus RS on the circuit, considering both are FWD.

My guess would have been that the Focus would have edged out the WRX and Golf R but I guess their AWD gives them the advantage.

The Type R Civic was woeful. Got caned by everything!

Which hot hatch would you buy and why?

Although I love the outrageous and brutish looks of the Focus RS, it's hard to go past the Megane's performance, especially given the price difference.

I did choose a handful really -

Focus RS - I would buy but I wouldnt buy it just yet! had a few issues with the Focus and lost trust, but overall I still think its an excellent car!

Megane - I agree entirely it is a fantastic little motor, however normally I snub the french cars - but this would be the exception.

Mazda3 - Its the best of both worlds I think, its got the best of the Focus Size and has very good performance, I just think its a good looking car!

Clio - I would buy this as a toy, but not a day to day car! its good fun to take out on a track, or in a big open space but I couldnt use it as a day to day car!

Type R - Again, as a toy, it looks good, its dashboard is fantastic, but performance is the worst of the three, but then again, I would probably be too distracted by the space age interior to be too bothered by the slight loss of performance!

Having said that I cant afford any of them, but them's my opinions!

only one car for me on that list and thats the RS! having previously owned an ST it was a fantastic car and the RS is even better, keep my fingers crossed for a lottery win haha

*if* they come along - I hope they dont follow suit as they did with the mondeo and remove the RS / ST series :(

i believe that there will defo be a mk3 focus st but unfortunately the 2.5L Volve engine will be replaced with a 2.0L eco boost offering around 250bhp! the sound the 2.5 Volve lump produces is just awesome and tbh without this the ST will loose some of its character!

Not sure if the Scirocco R is going to be a real hot hatch in the likes of the Focus RS or Megane.

I'd wager that the Scirocco R, being FWD, will have a hard time keeping up with its Golf R brother.
