Focus Accelerator Damper Removal?

Featured Replies

I'm new here so, first of all, hi all.

I just got a Focus 1.8 petrol Ghia (2002 model) last Friday and love the car, but there's one thing that's bugging me. When I change up through the gears, the engine revs stay up for a second when I take my foot off the accelerator and depress the clutch. Also, when just dabbing the throttle, it's very unresponsive.

After Googling a bit, it seems it's a known issue, apparently due to an 'accelerator damper'. People claim to have removed this damper to solve the problem. I would also like to do so and have a few questions:

1) Where is this damper located?

2) How do I remove it?

3) Are there any potential problems by removing the damper?

Thanks in advance.

Has no-one here made this modification to their Focus, then?
