Cambelt Snap - 1999 Duratec Tdi

Hi all,

Sorry to start by begging for info but I really need help.

My friend owns a 1999 Escort 1.8 TDi Duratec and his cambelt snapped with a pop, whizz and hiss, and he is worried that there has been valve damage.

Info I have seen on this car suggests that the SOHC has enough valve clearance to prevent head/valve damage but can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance of any replies!



Unless anyone knows otherwise, according to autodata its an interference engine so you are likely to have bent valves im afraid.

And the answer is... its kippered. 7 valves, broken cam.
