2002 fiesta 1.4tdci starting fault

Featured Replies

I was hoping someone could help me with my fiesta please. We have had the car over two years and had no problems at all but two weeks ago the car wouldn't start. The breakdown assistance got the car going and blamed the problem on an airlock due to letting the fuel run too low. We refuelled and the car was fine for a couple of days, then the fault returned. The breakdown again got it going, again the car was fine then it wouldn't start yesterday. The breakdown again were called and he suggested it may be the fuel filter, so i took the car for a service and had the oil/air/fuel filter all replaced. also the airflow meter was checked an cleaned and an additive was placed in the fuel to clean the injectors. The car seemed fine afterwards and seemed to run better than ever until this morning when it wouldn't start again. My only other thought is that it could be the fuel pump?? Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Have you got any idea what the breakdown guy was doing to get it started? May indicate where the problem lies. Would have to say from what you say its not the fuel pump. If it were the car wouldnt run at all. Does the engine turn over when you try to start it? Unless I've missed a bit, is the car petrol or diesel. if diesel, does the glow plug light extinghuish after a few seconds?

We have recently bought a 52 fiesta 1.4 tdci which also has starting problems particularly in warm weather. It appears that air gets into the fuel system and can be seen in the clear pipes connecting the hand pump. Sometimes there is air and no fuel after the car has been allowed to stand, and the fuel tank level has not been below a quarter. We were advised to change the fuel pipes and filter but the problem still remains. The baffling thing is that there is no apparent fuel leakage and the car runs fine once started.
