Parking Sensors Question

Featured Replies

Hi there!

New to the forum; bought a 2007 2.0 Auto C-Max at the weekend and just trying to get my head round it all today!

My car seems to have front and rear parking sensors fitted; the rear sensors come on and work no problem when Reverse gear is engaged, but I can't seem to get anything out of the front sensors. I have popped all 4 sensors out and they are all connected up and I have given them a good clean. What is confusing me, however, is that the handbook says there should be a switch to turn the front sensors on and off, but no such switch exists in my car!

Is it as simple as the sensors just haven't been wired up to a switch or is it something else? Any feedback would be massively appreciated!

You might find theres a control box lurking either in the hidden cabin (behind glove box or somewhere) or under the bonnet you need to switch on, otherwise they should engage with 1st gear. It depends if they are retro fit or factory...?

Hi, thanks for your reply. They definitely look factory fit/like genuine ford parts. Do you have any idea where the control box might be? If I take it down to the local Ford dealer, do you think they'll charge me the earth just to find out what the problem might be?!?!

Probably, and I personally think this day in age its difficult to tell factory and non-factory fitted sensors apart. The control box could be tied to something in the engine bay, or could be stuck somewhere behind the dashboard. Follow the power leads from each sensor, and see if you can trace them through the bay to their box. otherwise, if they are wired into the stereo they may have come loose.

Its highly likely that Ford will charge you a diagnostics fee at the minimum.
