Check for the usual things , is there brown sludge in your oil , has the oil level gone up, check for split pipe or radiator.

hi yes have checked all that no sighn of any water,

check the side of the engine where the water pump is, could be seal gone,

it's driven off a belt next to the timing.

i had this trouble with a previous car and turned out to be the pump, not expensive though.

and atleast its not your headgasket thats gone

It could still be the head gasket, it could be leaking into one of the cylinders and out through the exhaust. How quickly is the car using the water? when you fill the engine up with water does it disappear on its own or does the engine need to be running?

hi thanks for replys

I filled it up on saturday so it has taken a few days to go again, could it be the thermo casing .

Would this cause alot of white or blue smoke while driving mate ?

it would cause a bit of steam from the exhaust, depening on how quickly it was leaking would depend how much.

It could be the thermostat housing, have you checked for any signs of leakage?

Just my two cents, sounds a lot like a similar problem on my brothers old Escort diesel. It would lose coolant really quickly, so bad it needed topping up twice a day. He finally saw sense and brought it to me and admitted there was an issue, we had a look under the bonnet with the engine running and there was a leak around his water pump. Was a cheap easy fix and we did the timing belts too because once they're contaminated with water/oil it's an accident waiting to happen.

The headgasket can go in many places between oil wells, water wells or between cylinders. But if it has gone by a water well it could be causing coolant to leak into a cylinder and leak - but I haven't see this happen but it's possible.

That's just my (limited knowledge) opinion ;)
