Fiesta Not Starting When Cold

my wee fiesta 1.4 zetec wont start when its cold if you dont have the accelorater in while you start car it wont start. once started as soon as you let the acelorator out the car dies so this makes driving very difficult as it dies when you have to stop at a road end, slow down to go over speed bumps or go to put it into reverse. once driving for about a quater of a mile it runs ok. can anyone help me on wat it could be please

    Idle control valve? Will pump in more fuel when its cold so maybe that.
