Mk6.5 Airbox Painting

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm considering spraying some stuff under the bonnet, primarily the airbox, in either red or blue.

Has anyone done this already? does anyone have photos, and what sort of paint would i need? i assume i couldn't use standard paint because of the heat under the bonnet!

Any help would be great!

Cheers

I've never seen anyone paint the airbox, and cannot imagine why anyone would.

People do tend to paint the rocker cover after removing the airbox - never seen the appeal personally.

Erm, hammerite spray is supposed to be ok on some plastics, whether or not that plastic is what it's on about is anyone's guess, caliper paint is the same result there really. Both have good heat capacities but the whole plastic thing... Personally I think it'll look a bit taccy though really.

Because they want to maybe?

Bit of a pointless thing to draw attention to.

IMO replace the airbox with a K&N and spray the rockers if you want bling.

Mountune HT leads, set it off a treat.

The guy my other half bough his mk4 Astra gsi of had painted the airbox blue but it did look a bit purple and the guy even said so himself. So if you go for blue watch which one you buy. Sorry I can't tell you which colour/kind it was he used but I'll try find a picture of it (for the colour), thats if my boyfriend took any of because he was given the original black one too which he put back on.

If in doubt try photoshop :D

It's all about personal choice at the end of the day.

Thanks stoney871,

Tbh I'm on a tight budget and I want to do a bit of engine dressing. Probably go red to match the exterior of the car!

Hi pal, did you bother in the end?

Thinking about doing my cover but can't find any pictures/people that have done so already.
