hi i bought a 98 focus lx 1.6 few weeks ago n found out it has a zetec s engine in it and i havent herd he cooling fan kick once the dial on the dash only goes half way and has never gone past it yet but once i been driving for a while i hear a sort of bang come from the engine area feels like the fan trying to kick in but its not, also my auxilery heaters 123 work and 4 dont im a bit puzzled with that too aircon dont work but light comes on think needs refilling..can anyone help??

The cooling fan will only come on in a traffic jam on a hot day, not under normal driving conditions. The aircon can be several things, it may just need re-gassing or it may have a leak from the condenser or compressor, the only way to find out is to have the aircon checked with a dye by an aircon specialist

ive been sat in a few jams and car bangs from front end sounds like it wants to come on but its not,checked fuses and there fine and most focus's come on half way on the temp dial,????

My cooling fan last came on last summer on a very hot day after 10 minutes in a traffic jam, it's not been on for 9 months, even with the temp gauge at half way.

I'm not sure what your banging noise is, but I doubt it's the cooling fan.

Could be a fault with the aircon pump.

You could always bypass the relay for the fan or unplug the cylinder head temp sensor to force the fan to come on so you can test it. In the years i had my 1.6 focus i could NEVER get the fan to come on itself, never had any issues though.
