S-Max Wipers On Permanently

Featured Replies

HELP, my 10 plate s-max front wipers come at max speed when the car hits 25 mph. When i slow down below 25mph they stop again. they will work off the stick when going slow. soon as i speed up, they come at max speed again. And car is out of warrenty. ANY IDEAS?

Welcome along...

You dont have an auto switch on your wipers do you?

Sounds to me like something may have clicked and then the switch has broken, unable to disable it?

HI, No I don't have auto's. they have always worked fine until yesterday. I read a thread via google that suggested discounecting the battery for 30 mins. willing to try anything. will go to a car electritian if the battery thing don't work

Its as good a place to start as any. I would suggest, read your manual. See if it mentions anywhere, auto wipers, it might be that something else is triggering it, or a hidden switch / combination you have found has switched this feature on... hopefully the battery disconnect should resolve that.

Thanks for your replies, will post the outcome. fingers crossed

hey there, i disconnected the battery for 40 mins, reconnected it and the problem was still there. after looking at the manual, i then removed fuse F22. the problem has now stopped.when i replace the fuse with a new one, will the problem return? if it does, is it likely to be a short or as is more likely, a problem due to the alarm that i have been reading about. any advise would be great. all ideas are better than none

It has to be a short on the wiper system, probably a dry earth or something similar.

The relay may be another option to look into.

There have been reports of odd wiper behaviour being linked to issues with the alarm system having gone faulty and sending erroneous messages on the CANBUS. You're not getting any "Alarm Service" messages on the dash are you?

had same problem on my 2008 s max just had my local friendly mechanic plug in to the OBD coupler it had shed load of faults come up. mostly old logs but was mention of the wiper motor.
he cleared all the DTCs but problem still exsited for about 3 miles and the wipers started to behave as normal again so fingers crossed the problem is solved :) post-67382-0-05354700-1437748845_thumb.jpost-67382-0-25215900-1437748853_thumb.j

Hi there. Have same problem on my 2.0 tdci 2007. 25 miles per hour wipers come on and would not go off unless I slow down car. Aftr short while of the wiper fault the alarm system service required message came on.

I drive daily the car to work and look really silly with these wipers on even on dry whether....😡

Any ideas or if anyone here have solved similar faults please let me know how...thanks

water ingress in to alarm sounder back up, located behind n/s/f arch liner, disconnect the sounder, and leave it for a few days to see if the wipers respond normally.

Thanks iantt for your reply. Will look into it today after work and come back with outcome. So need to take off driver side front wheel and the poly arch protection...how does this alarm rounder look like by the way? Thanks again

I have now disconnected the alarm sounder which it seemed to be quite dry.

So far the alarm system fault comes back and wipers still behave wild...hopefully will clear in the next few days...

This morning I have also taken the F22 fuse off and parking sensors...Will see what happens on my way back from work...Will probably rain....and my wipers won't work....😂

I have finally got rid of the wiper issue by disconnecting alarm sounder but also fuse F 26 and also ODB memory fuse. ...however I still get the alarm system service required message on dash.

Thanks for the tips.

Hello I have an 08 smax 1.8 titanium. The wiper blades come on at 25mph and won't turn off. Have tried the f22 fuse and worked, until I locked the car. And then the problem came back. The wiper blades also turn off at 25mph.  Any ideas please.
