The ambient lights are wired from the interior illumination circuit so you could take power from a nearby switch (such as the ESP or climate switch) or the light switch.

This wire feeds power to the LED controller so that the LEDs are on when the dash illumination is on i.e. at night!

The LEDs are fed from many spurs taken from the output of the LED controller. I made several small PCBs from vero strip and used PCB header pins and sockets so that I could disconnect any LED should it need replacing or maintaining without affecting any of the other LEDs.

These LED spur PCBs have around 6 sets of female headers each and are located in the centre console, front doors, A pillars and B pillars.

This also makes the lighting very easy to expand as all I need to do is plug in my new LED strip to a nearby spur PCB using wired male header pins.

i've ordered some too, quick question though, when you cut the LED strips for each part of the car how are they then connected back together?

you have officially raped my mind :p thank you kindly for the detailed information.hopefully everything will arrive in the morning so i can have a go at it. although im not going to solder, not my forte. i have ambient lighting fitted already, i was rather hoping to tap into that?

Having dramas. The leds turn on but the remote doesn't work. Tried changing the battery to no avail. Any ideas anyone?

What was it you used to do the ambient lighting , always wanted to do it but never known how , looks great mate !

Started on my LED's (finally)

Using a piggy back fuse and earthed to the top of the stereo (single green wire in the photos)

The wire for the drivers side LED strip is routed under the stereo and then down behind the steering column.

Would highly rate using piggy back fuses, no need to splice into any existing wiring or running a supply from the battery and it's a constant ignition on supply.

Just need to cut and solder the LED strips now.

Quick question though lads, for the LED strip above the glove box, where did you feed the wires through?

Worked perfectly for mine and can be turned off in the options on your display this way :)

Cheers, managed to find a hole for the wires to go through, I've got mine set up on a remote so no need to go into the menus as it also has the drivers and passengers footwell lights, though the double sided tape on the back of the LED is pretty poor and doesn't seem to stick in either footwell (the one above the glove box is fine however)

Ahhh okay no worries, yehh that's the problem I had with the smd pads for under the footwells, so got some good 501 bulbs and ended up being better anyway luckily

Try a thin strip of carpet tape and wipe adhesion areas with alcohol wipes prior to sticking.

question how do you replace footwell bulb? Asin do you twist it out or pull it out and can I remove it while the light is still on when the door is open because I can't get down to it otherwise and also the main interior light at top of your head how do I go around replacing that what size of led bulb? And do i twist or pull rather ask then go ahead and brake something (((facelift mk7.5)))a good guide or a simple awnser would be awesome :)
