DanGersFord
Just wond anyones been pulled by the police/what for/your experience dealing with them. To memory I've been pulled 3 times (1) Was a standard VOSA check where they just literally gave my car a once over and let me on my way (2) I got pulled for speeding (38mph in a 30mph zone) thia was only about a month after I passed my test and was bricking it sitting in the back of the police car but fair play to the two guys they took a look at my liscence and seen I'd only just passed and asked me how much my insurance cost me (1.2 corsa and it cost me £1333 just tpft) and I think they felt sorry for me and just gave me a slap on the wrist and let me on my way (3) I got pulled just a random spot check because and I quote "we've just started a 12 hour shift and were bored so we though we'd pull you and give you a once over" apparently cause my car was registered in England and I was in Scotland visiting my mum and Dad at the time. Obviously I wasn't best impressed with the last one mainly cause they were just "bored" although I could understand why they pulled me with my car being registered in England. The second one I realy appreciated and it did genuinely make me sit back and take notice cause I was so scared id get 6points if I got pulled again and lost my liscence and also there was the fear of the greatly increased insurance. hubby1959
I've lost count of the number of times I've been pulled by the law, my earliest experiences were as a 17 yr old and just passed my test, there was one particular beat bobby that just loved to throw his weight around and every time he saw me he stopped me, sometimes more than once a day. We would then commence the dance of, "Can I see your licence, insurance and test certificate", to which I would show him my licence, then be issued with a HORT5, (Otherwise known as a producer), for the other documents, which I had to take to the local nick. After months of this, and a growing frustration not only to me but my parents I decided to save up all my HORT5's for an entire week and then go to the nick. At the little window where you had to ring the bell stood the sergeant, and as soon as my face poked round the door, he said, "Oh No not you again", then he was most perturbed when I pulled out 10 HORT5's for the week and proceeded to give me a bollocking for not bringing them in sooner. To which I brought his attention to the issuing officers number on the bottom of all the tickets, and informed him that either he had a quiet word with said officer or I would go over his head and complain to the duty inspector, and if I got nowhere I would go up the chain of command to the chief constable. I then stood there while the poor sergeant ended up with writers cramp, (This was pre-computerisation) filling out one line for each HORT5 that I had brought him. The end result was a piercing glare from the beat bobby the next time he saw me, but funnily enough he never stopped me after that, but did stop my mother who also used the car, a couple of times until she realised who he was and threatened him with the inspector. Mind you with the car being an ex-police panda could have had something to do with it.
stevegtuk
When i used to drive an escort van, Id get pulled at least once a month by her majestys finest. Theyd have a look round the van while i was at in the back of the car, then give me a producer to take my document into a police station and let me on my way. Most ofthe time you could have a laugh with them, unless they were young ones who hadnt been on the force long, they seemed to be a little power mad and did everything by the book, when they asked where i wanted to produce my papers. Id say, "bradford central, I get the best service there", and they would look shocked
hubby1959
My most memorable tug was when I was truck driving, coming out of Ollerton on the A616 to Newark, it's a slow climb especially fully loaded, but once you get the top of the hill there's a long downhill stretch with a sweeping left hand bend at the bottom, the road was clear, not another vehicle in sight, so it was foot hard down and go for it. The only slight snag was the traffic car sat hiding in the gateway to a farmers field, he clocked me at 67.67 MPH when I should have only been doing 40, need less to say it's 3 points and a fine, which I accepted without argument. Well I thought It best not to fuss, as I was a half tonne overweight aswell
btmaldon
I haven't been pulled for around 10 years. I have been caught speeding twice in 34 years of driving. I got pulled a few times in my earlier driving days, but not for my driving, just because I was a young guy driving a V8. You could get insured 30 years ago. I must add the Police were always polite and respectful and enjoyed a bit of banter. Like any other human being, if your respectful you get the same in return. If your a total tool, you will get treated like one.
Stoney871
Only ever pulled over twice in my lifetime. First time when 17 on my first motorbike, asked if i'd had a drink. When I showed the ticket from the cinema I'd just left I was quickly let on my way. Second time was about 6 years ago, my tail lights were out due to a short on the 12V socket on my old Honda Accord and once they saw I was a work colleague and also I was literally 100 metres from home that was that. Even as a serving Officer I must admit that there are a fair few spanners in the job but I can tell them to naff off if they are being chopsy. b1g_dav3
Lol where to begin, basically this ended up in 18 month court proceedings. My dad was doing 50 as we passed a police officer, in a 50 zone, when a black Hyundai overtakes at 70, and because she couldn't pull out to catch him due to a wagon, decides to pull my dad over for a blown headlight (which was actually a sidelight). She tells him in the car while I'm sat in the car on possibly the most dangerous bit of an area to be pulled on, that he was doing 70, and rather than coming to look at the car where the cruise has been disabled but is set to 50, oh no he was speeding and the device doesn't lie. After about 5 times of trying to show my dad the speed, realises the device has reset itself or something and can't get the speed back up, but because she witnessed '70' on the device it must be so. Well that was the fun part, from here everything goes down hill. We requested the video taken from the vehicle being used as evidence to request ourselves, it takes 2 visits to court to actually get this, and when we do there is no sound on it, and it's only a piece of it. When we complain, we get a letter from the Police asking to ring when possible, only the Sargent gives his personal home number, and over the phone says he's listened to the tape (weird right, as the reason for no sound being on the tape is the officer must have turned off the voice recording when it was brought up in court?) and says he has all the details of the case there in front of him. Luckily he doesn't react and says he refuses to speak to the Sargent until he is at work the following day, as who knows what could have changed, the statement of the officer already had twice... So the next day, my dad gets back 15 minutes late from when he said he'd call, well my God it was if the world was going to end, he threatened my dad over the phone and said he'd best get a damn good lawyer (yes, over a speeding case... Big man there). Then oh so mysteriously, when he is summoned to court too by our request along with the officer who pulled my dad, the whole video tape WITH sound turns up! But locked to a single computer so cannot be used in the court properly, with poor resolution and sound quality, turns up! Well, after another police officer brings a second laptop because the first one won't work... Hoping my dad would allow to go on with proceedings, the video was so poor it could be twisted to anything. So we request a good quality copy for the next proceedings. So the final proceedings come, the court see the video clearly, and can easily see the reaction of my father being told he was speeding, and also the black Hyundai that sped off. That along with my statement, the lack of organisation from the pair of police officers and the lack of any real evidence, my dad is cleared. 5 court visits over 18 months, with 100 mile drives each time. Meanwhile, I've been pulled 3 times for breath tests at Christmas -.-
hubby1959
This wasn't exactly a 'car' encounter, well not in the sense that I was driving, but I do remember being in Fitzalan square, Sheffield around 34 years ago, now as a 17 yr old, and having been pulled a number of times, (See Previous posting) I made it a project of mine to know the rules, (So to speak). Well at that time there used to be a number of parking meters and a police box with double yellow lines outside it, and as I was walking back to my car I noticed 2 empty meters and a police car parked on the double yellow lines. As some of you out there will know, the police can only park on double yellow lines if there is no available parking bay/meter, so I politely knocked on his window and asked him to move his car from the yellow lines and into one of the bays, to which he tried to bluff his way out of it, until I pointed out the empty bays, at which time his partner/passenger nudged him and told him to shift the car. When your right your right and there's nothing they can do about it
jeebowhite
I was tugged only last week... Had a bobby car behind me, and I went around a roundabout safely but quickly, and knew I had a policeman behind me (I am not one of those all saints drivers that suddenly drive perfectly at the first sign of a blue light!) so he came up alongside of me, and then pulled very quickly ahead and swung infront of me... (I knew it was either me, or the guy in front he wanted at this point!) - "FOLLOW ME" appeared in between his lights... Knew I hadn't sped, and new there was nothing dangerous or anything so followed him to the lay by... Keys out of ignition, sat in front of instrument cluster, PC Traffic rolls up and says that he asked me to stop as I have no side brakelights (only the high level). Asks me to insert the keys and turn on elwectrics and apply the brakes... He then pops to the back of the car and looks perplexed, returning to tell me that my brake lights appear to be working... He then asked me to start the engine and apply the brakes - duly done and both lights flash up. Again he looks very perplexed... I asked him if I may take a look, and surely enough, all three lights were working! He apologized, and said that perhaps the lights where sufficiently bright when its a little darker, however as we were at rush hour, and it was very light, he said that it must have been the light reflecting off that just made them appear invisible... he just let me on his way, got back into his car, and I saw him turn to his colleague and scratch his head, they both seem to have been perplexed! That was the first time I have ever been Stopped with blues, which was amusing! Otherwise I have only ever been on the same side as the policeman. Previously attended a traffic accident as a first aider with a biker thrown from his motorbike in a bike vs van challenge... Other than that, I did have a policeman threaten me with his blues on Christmas Eve as I was traveling a tad too quickly down the motorway, but he used them as a "watch your speed and behave yourself" as opposed to a "stop boy-o your nicked!" Hmmm now thats an idea, put a switch on your brake lights, so you can turn them off when the police are behind, then switch them back on when they pull you

mixmasterlooney
The first time i got pulled by the plod, was in wiltshire with some friends. one of my friends got very drunk that night and started acting like a complete idiot so we decided to take her home, walked out the house cops across the road looking at us, pushed her in the car anyways and went on my way, coppers where running a check on my registration when i drove off, 20 mins later i returned and parked up, coppers burst out of a corner blue lights on with dramatic parking infront of my car. Came out and asked me where i'm from (I'm from london) i looked at him with a puzzled look he then said it's a routine stop... told him what he needed to know then told me there has been recent incident of young girls going missing in the local area and my car was an out of town registered vehicle btw this was 3am, he then decided to probe my car and ask a series of trick questions before he gave up. I told him she was drunk and we took her home to sleep it off, he wrote down my drivers licence number and said he would make a note, i have no idea what that meant. So i figured i am down as some sort of potential teenage girl kidnapper in the wiltshire county. Second time, i pulled away at a traffic light fast but not aggressive, drove upto 30mph suddenly blue lights behind me... i stopped and the copper spend few mins trying to insist i was doing 40mph.... i asked him how he gathered that speed and he looked at his speedo... lol i laughed in his face and told him to get a grip asked him if there was anything else, he said no and i drove off. !Removed! was judging my speed based on his speedo... whilst trying to catch upto me... what a numpty, got home and then realized my MOT ran out the previous day, lucky escape!
