Can This Be Done? (Aux Wiring On Mk2.5)

Featured Replies

Hiya folks,

I intend to get a Brodit iPhone holder which will secure my phone onto the air vent next to the steering wheel. I am wanting the run the AUX cable from the port in the glovebox as pictured, behind the dash so the cable pops out of the vent where my iPhone will be located.

Is this possible without much hassle?

i believe so... i purchased a 5m aux cable male to male and ran it from the glove box to the arm rest compartment...

you will have to remove the glove box (5 or 6) hex screws remember to unclip the aux port before pulling it out.

you may need to remove the stereo so you can pull the cable through and feed it into the vent section...

i would remove the required vent aswel, this can be done with 2 small flat head screwdriversinside the vent pulling the metal tabs inwards then pull towards you...

Definitely feasible.

When you put the cable into the vent pipe you could seal around the hole with Sugru from B&Q, it's a soft compound like Blu-Tack but sets like rubber when dry.

I set up on my old focus the tom tom cable, it ran from under the gearstick, up the back and I drilled a hole in the vent where the vent widens out, slipped the cable through, poked it out of the vent and set it in place. Never resealed the hole and never had any problems with it.

if you have the patience it is easy enough to do.

Going to look into this ASAP, thanks guys.

I'm sure if you bring the cable through the vent as near the top as you can you should be able to get away with sealing it as the air coming out will already be at the point of exit if you know what I mean and if I remember correctly from the last time I removed mine there plenty of space around the edge to be able to bring the cable up to that point .

Managed to do this today. Was a simple case of feeding the aux wire from the point in the glovebox through the hole close to the bulb, around the side of the rear stereo and through the vent. Looks very tidy and will no doubt save me alot of hassle with CD's etc! Happy with it :)
